NURSERY (Tiny Little Critters) -
Newborns to 2 years old
Contact:
 Sara McKissick at 704-814-1024

The Nursery Ministry will partner with families to introduce babies, toddlers, and two year olds to the love of Jesus through consistent care and simple teaching by loving adults.

Newborns are lovingly cared for by trained, female volunteers. Our “cradle nursery” is a warm, welcoming place for nursing moms and their babies! Infants and Crawlers learn from a very simple curriculum that is tactile and visual. It is in this nursery that we teach our babies to gently “pat the Bible.” They learn that God made everything as they look at birds, bunnies, clouds... We have special infant tables with built-in seats for these little people.

Toddlers move on to discover that God made families as they enjoy learning about farm families. Each lesson reminds the children "God made families. God made my family. Thank you, God, for my family!" Structured, traditional teaching begins with 2-year-olds. Roaming storytellers come to each class with a planned lesson and a time of praise & worship enhances the children’s retention of the lessons as we “walk through the Bible” together! Classroom volunteers have several simple guided activities to enhance the children’s retention of the lesson.

EARLY CHILDHOOD MINISTRY (The Barnyard) -
Age 3, 4 and young 5-year-olds

Contact: Megan Moore at 704-814-1025

The Barnyard Friends Sunday School will introduce preschool children to basic concepts of faith through intentional shepherding and uniquely designed teaching.  If your child's third or fourth birthday was prior to October 15, he or she belongs in our Barnyard Friends Ministry!

3-year-olds
are welcomed each week to the Sheepfold.  Their 4-year-old friends join them from the Pony Corral.  The Spotted Cow group is for our younger 5-year-olds.  The Barnyard Ministry is a "large group/small group" approach to teaching.  The children hear the story and sing music in the context of a large group.  Relationships are built in small groups, where a shepherd brings application to the story and introduces the children to a Bible memory verse.

The curriculum is a two-year cycle.  One year focuses on the basics of "Who is God?" and the second year, "Who is Jesus?"  The schedule each week includes free play, Bible stories, music, small group time, a snack, and a puppet show!

CHILDREN'S BIBLE TIME - 3-5 years old
Contact:
Kristi Leonard at 704-814-1027

Children’s Bible Time enhances covenant family worship by providing a vehicle for the ministry of the Word to children that is Biblically sound, relevant, and child-targeted.

Children from 3-5 years old (in the Barnyard program or Kindergarten) are welcome to attend Children’s Bible Time. There are both child-friendly worship bulletins and Children’s Sermon Notes for kids that are designed to enhance the worship experience for children remaining in worship.

The curriculum for this ministry is God-centered, Biblically based, media curriculum that is engaging and relevant to our children. They will be shepherded by adults and youth who will guide them through activities and review of the story they learn each week. Children are dismissed from Worship prior to the sermon and must be accompanied by a parent.

ELEMENTARY MINISTRY
Contact: Kristi Leonard at 704-814-1027

This ministry presents Biblically sound, relevant lessons each Sunday in a small group/large group format. The children are taught in large group by gifted, passionate teachers, and then have activities in their small groups that help reinforce what they have learned. Small groups are led by dedicated, loving adults who build relationships with the children in their groups and show the love of Jesus to each child.

During the early elementary years (K to 2nd grade), the children are taught the narrative Bible stories with a God-centered focus. The emphasis each week is on who God is, and the children are encouraged to respond to Him with their whole lives.

Older elementary children in grades 3-5 are taught systematically through our “Discipleship Course for Kids.” They are building on the foundation of the Bible stories they have learned with courses on foundational theology (i.e. Talking with God, Christ and Salvation, The History of the Church, etc.). They, too, are asked to give a weekly response to what they have learned.

Our elementary program is held during the 9:00 Sunday School hour. Elementary children must be registered to attend Sunday Bible School.  Online registration is requested in the fall.  At other times, call Kristi Leonard at 704-814-1027 to register.

KING'S KIDS (Special Needs Class)
Contact: Cherry Nyholm at 704-366-3966

The King’s Kids Sunday Bible School will provide opportunity for caring volunteers to demonstrate the love of Jesus to individuals with special learning needs.

This class is for students at least 8 years old with special learning needs, not including learning disabilities. Team teachers use a curriculum involving the five senses, and activities are varied. Distinctive features of this class include caring buddies who facilitate individualized learning, visible encouragement, and the extensive use of music for worship, Scripture memory and learning fun.  The class meets at 9:00 a.m.

COMMUNICANTS CLASS
This is a 12-week class for children 5th grade & older during the 9:00 Sunday School hour. A parent must attend the class with the child each week and there is a 20 student limit, so the class fills up quickly. It is offered twice a year, in the fall and spring.  Pre-register your child for the Fall 2010 class by contacting Kristi Leonard at 704-814-1027 or kleonard@christcovenant.org.
